Up next: Jungle Jack's Wackiest, Wildest, and Weirdest Animals in the World

It's in the mail... and Owen is excited to get his animal book!!

For the tough times... by Max Lucado

While Max Lucado is one of my favorite children's christian book writers I have to say that this was not my favorite adult book. Max Lucado does do an excellent job of getting the point across with compassion, humor and warmth, but the book is rather choppy as if it has been cut and paste together. While it was an easy read (it was a rather small book) it still felt like it was put together with an after-thought.

One thing was good... the message was clear... just when you think your life is out of control... God is in control.

Word of Promise- Next Generation!

The Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament mp3 set was a fun way to listen to the bible. The characters really bring the scenes in the bible to life. I would say the target audience for this would be between the ages of 8 and 13. Even though the International Children's Bible (ICB) New Testament translation was used I was still interested in listening as an adult. While I am an adult it was overly easy to listen to and understand. The sound effects and “acting” were by far better than a few other “bible on CD” sets I have listened to. The actors/actresses are young and popular. Many are from hit shows like Hannah Montana, American Idol, and High School Musical to name a few. The preteens are sure to be drawn to it. I really enjoyed this version and I look forward to checking out the adult version!

The Moon Shines Down by Margaret Wise Brown

The Moon Shines Down is a poetically and beautifully written children's book. With every turn of the page your children can visit another culture in a far away land from the comfort of their favorite reading spot! The verses written by Margaret Wise Brown have an elegant rhyme to them that makes the story easy to remember. Young children will be "reading" along in no time! Illustrator, Linda Beck, did a brilliant job of making page vibrant and eye catching. Each illustration is so highly detailed that my toddler would look at the book for hours. The illustrations are sure to captivate toddlers and adults alike.

My only criticism would be that words like "brambles" and "English wood" might be a bit difficult to explain to a toddler or a young child.

Overall the book was a fun and enchanting read for both my toddler and I. This "soon to be classic" children's book will be a part of our family library for years to come!
